That an understanding of representation is linked to the cultural experiences and the backgrounds of the audience.
It is also affected by the audience relationship with, for example, the individual star/event/
environment etc.
Muderball is documentary about the lives of the USA wheelchair rugby team. It shocks the audience as it challenges stereotypical representations of disabled people. Often audiences has vaired representations on disabled people, one being pitable and pathetic, however one of them men featured in the documentary mocks this theory as he states how he plays on the pity to attract women. Another stereotype is that they are incapable of fully participating in everday life, the documentary challenges this as they all participate in a paralympic sport. One of the more agressive charatcers, which is another stereotype of disable people, sarcasticly makes the point of he wouldnt go to the supermarket if he required help to get back into the car. This educates the audience how capable they still are of everyday tasks even after enduring a life threatening accident. It also teaches the audience that they aren't a burden or an outcast as they have their own community where they all socialise with one another, just like anyone who isn't disabled would. This documentary alerts the audience that they should re-think the representation they have of disabled poeple as they still joke and take the mic out of one another.
