Murderball

How will audiences interpret the representation within texts? Who are the texts aimed at?
That an understanding of representation is linked to the cultural experiences and the backgrounds of the audience.
It is also affected by the audience relationship with, for example, the individual star/event/
environment etc.

Muderball is documentary about the lives of the USA wheelchair rugby team. It shocks the audience as it challenges stereotypical representations of disabled people. Often audiences has vaired representations on disabled people, one being pitable and pathetic, however one of them men featured in the documentary mocks this theory as he states how he plays on the pity to attract women.  Another stereotype is that they are incapable of fully participating in everday life, the documentary challenges this as they all participate in a paralympic sport. One of the more agressive charatcers, which is another stereotype of disable people, sarcasticly makes the point of he wouldnt go to the supermarket if he required help to get back into the car. This educates the audience how capable they still are of everyday tasks even after enduring a life threatening accident. It also teaches the audience that they aren't a burden or an outcast as they have their own community where they all socialise with one another, just like anyone who isn't disabled would. This documentary alerts the audience that they should re-think the representation they have of disabled poeple as they still joke and take the mic out of one another.

Lighting

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVtOeaNuny4&feature=related

Natural background light, its a dark evening which is a convention of a horror movie, suggests that something bad is going to take place.
Fill lights are used as lamps in the living room, to iluminate the girl on the screen, adds a warm homely vibe, which is contradicted with the dark outside.
Street lights are lit outside to iluminate the house, and higlights how deserted the area is, the use of street lights also add a shadowy effect to the surrounding trees, shadows are another conotation of horror films establishing the genre. An eery effect is created.
It could almost be described as a small spotlight that glistens and relfects of the kitchen knife, this highights the importance of the light and suggests it could be a key prop in a later scence.
The one wall light iluminates the hall as the girl walks through it, it creates many shadows from the wooden bannister, creating a dark eery vibe.
A blue filter and the blue tv screen luminate the screen emphasising what a dark night it is, blue filters are often associated with horror films.
The boy tied up seems to be lit with a smoky fog, the spotlight emphasises the character so the audience can identify its a key point, the smoke appears to be suffocating him suggesting he's in danger.
Low key lighting is present when the boys tied up and the only light iluminating him is a reflection in a window creating a dark and sinister atmosphere.
