Elle and Top Gear Annotation

Elle magazine targets an audience of woman aged 16 to 25, the stereotypical psychographic is white middle class. The audience who consume Elle are likely to also consume the magazine Cosmopolitan, the TV programme New Girl. Also as Emma Watson appears on the cover meaning the Elle magazine would appeal to Harry Potter consumers.  The anchoring text “Emma Watson” draws you in as she’s an actress and model, this engages with a young female audience who aspire to be like Emma Watson, young and successful.  The mode of the address suggests Emma Watson’s sure of herself, and stylish.  She wears a Coco Chanel  corset enhancing that she’s stylish which links to the genre of the magazine.  The graphology is key in drawing in the audience, as the different style and coloured fonts draws your attention to different sections. For example “the new trends” is big and the word new is in red font. New is a cover line and draws in the attention of the audience.
